This blog started 4 years ago on June 1st in Boston. I got my first photopass which was to the first artist I wrote to, Ray LaMontagne. The opening act was the first official artist I shot and I was blown away by the power of her voice, the music she performed, and the energy she brought to the stage. The first words she spoke into the microphone, “Today is my 30th birthday.” The crowd of 5,000 on hand cheered as Brandi Carlile began her set before a wicked thunder and lightning storm came in and I got drenched.
A year later I was able to cover her show again for this blog, and below are some of my favorite shots. Fast forward 3 years. Here I am living in Los Angeles, having turned 30 myself. Earlier this year Brandi released The Firewatcher’s Daughter on ATO Records, and I headed out to the Wiltern to photograph Brandi for the first time in LA. Ethan Gruska of the Belle Brigade opened the show.
